TOPIC: Flat Wax Sheets and Plates ...casting themBramblebush ForumsFAQ Posted by Gene Olson on January 11, 1999 at 11:06:53: Andy, and others I was just over at my foundry supply place yesterday and started talking with the owner about wax. He had victory brown and a hardening alloy wax for mixing in. He also had a 3 x 4 ft slab of 2" machinable. We got to talking and he volunteered the following: To get a nearly stress free perfectly flat wax slab you need to pour it on edge. The sides must be symetrical and the mold must be warm and insulated to cool slowly. All the contraction then takes place in the vertical direction with the warm wax in the center flowing down to fill in as the mass cools from the side plates in. While his concern was casting the machinable stuff, I would think that the same principle should work for other kinds as well.
