Another old time patina is to pour milk over the piece, let it dry and bury in the backyard for a few weeks.

If you want something faster reacting, rub cat piss all over it. I discovered this by accident when one of my cats went into a box of belt buckles I had just finished. These were maganese bronze (yellow brass) but it should work for copper.
