Sandcasting Glass

I have been trying with somewhat limited sucess to sandcast glass in both open sand molds and closed sand molds.

I am using the same furnace to melt and anneal the glass but I do have another furnace I can use. Currently, I shake out and put the piece in the hot furnace and let it cool down overnight.

My biggest problem is the glass cools down rather quickly about halfway through the pour. It starts out pretty fluid but ends up like thick molassis. I was using old beer bottles which are plentiful in my shop but have now started using clear glass jars which seem to work better.

My questions:

What is the best method of cutting the sprue?

what is the correct pouring temp? Currently I'm at about 1900 deg.

Or, should I give up and use glass specifically for this purpose?
