Why not use black rubber--the same stuff that's used in base metal casting and availble thru Rio Grande, etc.? Have you ever used Rio Grande's "American Pewter"? It's a tin-zinc-copper alloy. Since its got the trace copper, it can be plated easily. Your biggest expense will be making the mold frame (got any friends with a machine shop?) Or else you could--if you can do relief-reverse carving--even cast it in wood with a thin coat of investment on the wood impression; or else do the sodium/silicate cure w/CO2. |
