I really can't say that I have had any major problems with contamination, but someone mentioned this in a response to one of the questions I asked on this forum. The response has been lost somewhere in the forum so don't remember exactly what they said. I also thought that it would make the pot more durable. Cutting the bottom off of a large oxygen cylinder with a hack saw is a lot of work so I want it to last a while. The oxygen cylinder was the only thing I could find that I felt comfortable handling with molten metal inside. The walls are about a quarter inch thick and it fit like a glove inside my furnace. I would like to use ceramic crucibles but I don't have the spare cash to buy the tongs to fit them. The cheapest pair of tongs I have found are over $200.
