A really big question but you came to the right place.

Some time ago Artmetal did a chat session on wax working for casting, and it starts out with paraffin questions right off.

Check out Sculptural Wax Working for later casting:

http://www.artmetal.com/village/chat/main/transcrp/980423MN.htm

and you should get a super bit of info explaining all sorts of other details.

If you would like to go another step see also

"Is Art a Business or Just a Great Way To Live?"

http://www.artmetal.com/village/chat/main/transcrp/980129MN.htm

as that adds to additional info on results along these lines.

The more you understand what the foundry will be wanting to do to make that transition, the easier it will be for them, the cheaper for you, and the higher the quality can become with less effort.

Cheers
