Most of the polyester casting resins we use can only be cast in thicknesses of about an inch max if they are solid blocks as otherwise the heat generated as the resin goes off will make it crack. You build up the cast in layers. Dont be tempted to over catalyse to speed it up though as it will be more likely to shrink and crack.
