As far as i know, dendritic growth is the only type that forms under normal conditions when aluminum freezes. Perhaps there is a way to alter the structure through heat treatment, or in a controlled atmosphere, although i can find no references at all to a planar crystal structure in aluminum. Planar crystals do occur when electroplating some metals.

By the way, what do you mean by 'plain, pure' aluminum?

Are you doing a science project or research of some kind?
