Any clean, sharp sand is ok. Temperatures dont get anywhere near vitrification temps, even with the fluxing influence of some plaster components.

Somewhere near a 50/50 mix seems to be popular. Too little plaster makes for a weak mold, in my experience.

Grog is more stable than sand as to thermal expansion, but properly handled plaster/sand molds are not going to give one trouble.
