don't try melting aluminum bronze. Go to a scrapyard with a bottle of silver nitrate solution and a magnite. Go to the "yellow brass" pile. Get all the slightly magnetic and metal which turns grey after you put a drop of silver nitrate on it. this stuff is maganese bronze. It pours at about 1900 - 2200 degrees and is good stuff. you do not need any flux and it won't mess up your crucible like leaded brass or aluminum bronze will. You can blend it with silicon bronze for whatever color you want. You do have to really gate it because it shrinks pretty good.

I used to blend my own brass but ruined lots of crucibles with flux and other crap until I learned how to spot good stuff at the scrapyard.
