Hi Tim-

I am a chemist and would defer to bp in the practical matters, since I am speaking from the depths of my ignorance on such matters. I have found the ArtMetal search engine to be a wonderful resource.

For what it is worth the theoretical minimum temperature to drive out the combined water in gypsum products is about 350 F. At that temp it would take forever to accomplish the task. 550 F would be pushing the lower limit if the time were reasonable.
