Insert molding?... Casting a steel rod in aluminum

I'll be making several aluminum castings that require a steel stud/pin. I think it'll be a big time saver to just cast the steel pins in when I pour the molds rather than drilling, tapping, threading a pin etc.

I'm sure I've seen this machine parts done like this but now that I'm looking for an example, I can't find one.

Does anyone have any insight to this process? I'll knurl the pins or groove them or someway provide a mechinical feature for anti-rotation and pullout. Any issues like shrinkage, chilling, etc. to worry about?
