Wyoming and Saskatchewan bentonite is sodium bentonite. Southern from Ala. or Miss. is calcium bentonite.

Greensand (using water binder) usually uses a clay binder of 20% southern and 80% "northern" or "western". The clays must be thououghly dried and ground to work with oils as in Petrobond. I don't know exactly what mix is used in petrobond

This is all from reading I haven't tried mixing my own yet.

I used a naturally occuring sand mix in obtained locally while teaching at a college in central Alberta years ago with good results, untill I could convince the school to buy petrobond.
