There are some natural sands that work in the as found condition. Most industrially used sands use about 5% bentonite, a special clay as the binder. Porter-Warner Industries here in Chattanooga (423-266-4735) are major international suppliers of moulding sands and additives I have a friend that used a 50# sack of their PetroBond additive to 1000# of dried brick sand and got good results. I am using some sand donated by a local foundry, I haven't tried a home-mix yet. John Odom |
