I'm building a burn-out kiln for ceramic shell using a Kaowool refractory blanket. I've read that you can paint a liquid rigidizer on the blanket to increase its strength and reduce the material deteriorating when bumped by hot shells. Sounds great, right? I've heard that the rigidizer actually makes the blanket brittle and that the surface will start to crumble after a few firings. Does anyone have any advice and experience with this?
