Repousse` On Mild Steel
A brief demonstration by Chris Ray
Page 01

The forms are in the early stages of being pushed out from behind while still using the hard rubber backing mat. Sometimes folks prefer to do this on a lead backing but this isn't something I would advise because of the toxicity of the metal. Another substitute would be to pour a bed of pliable pitch on the bench and then work over that instead.
The tools used are blunt faced and shaped in various ways to conform to the dishing operation they are intended to create.  The material lies flat on the rubber mat and the tool is then driven into the material within the guidlines that are apparent. As you are striking your tool, be mindful of the direction you are pushing the metal.
