Repousse` On Mild Steel

A brief demonstration by Chris Ray

outlining the design

This is a short demonstration relating to repousse work on mild steel.  The piece shown is to be a shaped  component for a forged iron sculpture.

A design has been drawn on the face of a piece of 18ga. sheet steel and with a tracing tool, I'm beginning to do the outline.  The metal is placed on a hard rubber mat, allowing the indentation to show through the other side without excessive thinning of the metal.  If the sheet was laid directly on the heavy steel plate beneath then the drawn line would be a bit thin because of the pinching effect of the tool against the work surface.

Right now I just want to define the design and then will work it from the back.
