By mid afternoon an accumulation of parts and beautiful pieces of forged iron began to accumulate on the floor of the shop.

Most of the forgings were made from lengths of 2 1/2" round stock but not all of them.  Sometimes miscellaneous pieces of iron were welded together then forged as a single mass under the hammer.  This provided us with some unusual options that opened up other unconventional avenues to explore.

Heath Satow brought in a couple of large industrial gears and he put those under the ram of the hammer. These pieces created some distinctive counterpoints to the other forms.

Mike Roig has his turn at the alter of the hammer and in an almost ritualistic way, life springs forth from the heated iron.

One method of shaping transforms itself into another method. It seemed as if the various parts given birth at the forge were reborn once again into this growing  form.  Life begins as pure energy then develops under the nuturing guidance of a community of spirits.
