BIG Project !

longshotlongshotsitesitearcharchFor me anyway... I've had good feedback from my client on a preliminary rough sketch and wild guess at cost of this project, so I'm now trying to work up a proper quote. I'm going to try to attach a couple of photos of the site, and a couple of sketchup sketches - first drawing software I've found that I can just about work. This is a screen, to partially conceal an ugly pile of push bikes parked behind it. It's going to be made mostly from 6" X 1/4", and there's about a 50' run to the left of the steps, and 30' to the right. What dya think ?

Incidentally, the design is intended to reflect the style of the gothic windows of the library adjacent. For some reason I can't get a picture of them uploaded..

Your picture could be larger

Your picture could be larger than 1 megabyte in size or possibly the wrong format? If you want to send it to me via email, I'll take a look to see what's up with it.

nice lines

Nice lines .... if you can get access to a large hammer I suggest you have all the bar thickened on edge with a medieval texture ...then you can bend and weld ....this way it will make a nice blend with the wall ...good luck

Great design, the 6in depth

Great design, the 6in depth gives the gothic shapes a contemporary feel, and a great sense of substance.  Hope you get the gig!

HOLLY WOW WILL!

This is going to be magnificent! And yes, think very carefully about your quoting because I've just finished my second gate and I was way to low on the price Here's my latest gate. For all you gate makers, what do you think of it? gillislatest gate: Here's my latest gate. For all you gate makers, what do you think of it? gillis. How many people will work on this project and how long do you think it will take? And by the way, what is the program you have used for the design?

Hey Gillis, and

Hey Gillis, and everyone.
Nice gates !
I'm assuming doing this project pretty much single handed, apart from installation - although if any of my buddies are at a loose end if and when the project comes off, I may be glad of some help.
One of the features I made sure to work into the design was to make it modular so that hopefully each piece will be just about handleable...?!
As for time - well I rarely get that right, but I think I guessed at about 2 months. I now have to go back over my notes and make sure I'm not doing myself down ! The next meeting at which the project will be hopefully approved isn't till November, and with steel prices as volatile as they are, I'm not going to going to give any firm estimates till the last minute.
I have always been hopeless at every c.a.d. programme I've tried, and very slow and poor at freehand drawing, but I did this with google sketchup, WHICH IS FREE !
I've been able to email my client the 3dmodel so they can "walk around" it, and see how it looks from different angles. I think it's a great sales tool.
Took me a while to do, but this is one of the first times I've had a client pay me(a little)to work up a design, so I got to learn how to do it and be subsidised !
