New Puppy

Not much work going to get done for the next few days as we just collected our new (deerhound) puppy. He's 5 months old so pretty big already-should end up about 30-32" at the shoulder!
We finally lost my partner's old labrador a month or so ago after a long battle with a tumour, so young Ash is now going to be keeping us exercised and off the streets.PuppylovePuppylove
Fitting an interesting set of stair rails later in the week - will post a picture or two, as well as maybe a picture of the beginnings of my copper tree.

Nice looking pup, Will.

Nice looking pup, Will. 30-32" at the shoulder sounds like great table height to me. Should make for some interesting stories down the road. :^)

A friend of ours has a minature horse that is only 26 inchs and is full grown.

but I really do love big dogs. They are so mellow.

Love the picture of the

Love the picture of the puppy, he looks like a good strong dog. I had a deerhound greyhound cross, she had a very similar look to yours, she was beautiful, i lost her just before Christmas after a long battle with diabetes and tumors, we had been together for 12 years and she came everywhere in my van with me.
Seeing the picture of your pup makes me realize how much i need to get another. It is a thing of beauty watching running hounds, they are so graceful and elegant. She loved to chase rabbits even to the end she would give them a few frights!!!
Anyway hope all goes well with the pup and thanks for bringing back some very fond memories.

Thanks everyone. And Adrian

Thanks everyone. And Adrian - my last one was a deerhound greyhound cross and he was a fine hound ! In fact I'd been looking for another big cross, rather than going down the pedigree route, but we saw Ash and that was it!
Production's ground to a halt while I attempt to housetrain him. ( in other words, divide my time between walking him fruitlessly round the garden making encouraging noises, and cleaning stuff up in the kitchen he produces every time I turn my back for 5 minutes !)

Hi Will, noticed you were in

Hi Will, noticed you were in the uk, checked out your web site, you have done some very lovely commissions.
Do you get to any forge ins? Are you a member of BABA.? Just wondering if we have met at all?
Anyway Brian Russell is having a forge in at his shop in May. If you are interested.
Take care and may see you around!

Hi

Thanks for the encouraging comments!
I'm not one of your more outgoing blacksmiths I'm afraid, but I should try to get to the odd forge in. They do tend to be up North, though, which makes it a bit of a trek, and workload, hideously slow workrate and other hobbies mean I struggle to find the time. Also my Mrs. works abroad a lot and likes to see me occasionally when she's home.( no accounting for taste!)
So my little network, apart from online, consists mainly of the guys I met while doing the N.e.t.s. course at Hereford with Paul Allen, some of whom you may know - but I doubt if you've bumped into me.
Some day you may get that dubious pleasure though !

Puppysmithing

Just don't let him sleep under your bed. If the phone or doorbell rings, you may be in for the ride of your life! I had a deerhound once that got hit by a car. The grille was badly bashed in, but the dog just got up and gave the car a dirty look and walked away. These dogs will only have one issue; they are subject to gastric torsion like other tall dogs.

Hey Nic, Nice to think he

Hey Nic,
Nice to think he may be car proof - Must admit I've had a greyhound, and a greyhound/deerhound x in the past, and it's only recently I've heard of this gastric torsion thing!

Shouldn't be too much of a risk if he doesn't eat just before or just after exercise, right?
