Hello all

Hi everyone, not only am I a new member, but this is the first time I've ever joined any kind of social networking type site - it may take a while to learn the ropes. This site has popped up often when I've been surfing for metalwork related information, and it looks like there's some very talented and knowledgeable people here!
I'm a blacksmith / general metalworker running my own business from a little workshop attached to the house. I've been here about two years; before that I worked at a blacksmiths Nr. Banbury for several years. I started my metalworking career making sheet steel moulds for rotational plastic moulding maybe twenty years ago. Only formal training I've had was a three year forgework course at Herefordshire college of Technogy. Still learning.... still making mistakes!

Welcome

Welcome to the forum. It is filled with folks who make mistakes and hopefully learn from them.

Hi

Thanks for the welcome Janet - and your comments. There's a lot more stuff I want to get on the website, which I only launched in December - but I'm struggling with the technology a little !
At the moment, I seem to be doing a lot of pretty humdrum stuff in the workshop - but it'll help pay for the next shiny tool I convince myself I need!
Have already admired your pieces...one thing I'm noticing is how much more imaginative a lot of you guys are with your finishes and patinas than I am - I'm quite excited about the inspirational potential of joining this site

danish oil

fred

virgin on the site - saw you said hello to another newey- part joined it to solve a problem/ ask a question - but dont know best way to ask it - confused by groups/blogs/forums etc

i am an architect and have just built my own extension - the house is a cob house - made of mud and i have a steel frame in it to stop the old house being crushed by the new extension - basically i fancy a clear finish on the raw steel frame - can get it blasted and am looking for a clear finish that will preserve the finish, not rust and will be ok in a home

picked up an old question from years ago on google on using danish oil but trying to learn more - can u help or know how i can ask the community the question?

thanks cobman - real name colin

many thanks
COBMAN

Pleased to meet you !

So far I liking this site a lot. Hope I don't get too addicted! I did that oil lamp a few years ago now - I've never got a picture of it I'm really happy with, but I'm glad you like it!

hmmmm...

Don't be so enigmatic, George. You got me worried.
Just cos I'm paranoid don't mean they're not out to get me.
