Text and Image Editor

Site Help - FAQ

The very first time you use the built in editor for posting text and/or images, you will have a very simple box to fill in information. I'm not going to every thing that you can do, but I am going to go over a couple of really important things that will make life easier for you.

  1. Click the "Input format" tab
    1. There are 2 radio buttons available. Once you click on the "enable rich-text" and save your document with whatever info you have, this will be your default setting and you should not have to ever change it again.
  2. If you stay in the non gui mode, you can simply type and put photos in your document by clicking the photo icon.
  3. You can also select the "Flickr image insert" tab and enter a keyword to retrieve images from the Flickr web site. Note that the only way to use this feature is if you DO NOT have the rich-text editor enabled.
  4. So, now you can play with the tinyMCE wysiwyg gui. This interface will allow you to upload/insert pictures up to 1 meg in size. You will also be able to select text and add bold, italic, underscore, crossthrough, several headings, and alignments.
  5. Once you finish editing your document, you can run the abc spelling checker, do a preview and then save your file.

Any Questions? Cool

Adding an image from outside artmetal.com

Here's an image from Gene's web site. Seems he was having a hard time inserting the reference to the image...

If you will click on the "enable rich-text" link below the entry space, you should get a tinymce wysiwyg gui screen. There, you will find a little tree picture icon on the top of the entry area. Click on it and you will be able to enter the url for an outside image. You're also going to have to click on the "Input Format" link and check the enable rich-text button. This will allow for all the html formatting you will need.

On the other hand, if you want to upload an image directly to the artmetal.com site, you can click on the large camera icon and follow the prompts. There is also a "flickrsticker" image insert down at the bottom of the page that you can use for linking to images from flickr.com. I actually have put images in several posts so far. But to use flickrsticker, you have to "disable rich-text."

I know there is some strange ways to enter content. Hopefully, as we get out of beta, I'll be able to give you a better interface for data entry. For now, there's several ways to work it. From simple to complex, once you get an idea of what you can do, you'll see its a breeze...

Cool

Flock Settings Question

I'm giving the Flock browser a try.  When I tried to setup the blog editor in Flock I received an error message saying it "cannot detect my blog's settings."  I tried to do it manually and took some guesses at some of the settings, but apparently I couldn't guess correctly.

These are the settings it's looking for (with some of my guesses):

  • Blog's Full Web Address = http://www.artmetal.com/blog/username
  • XML-RPC API = _drupal blog
  • Blog ID =
  • Access Point =
  • User Name = username
  • Password = password

I just posted a how to on

I just posted a how to on Using Flock for Posting Blogs in the help/faq which tells you how easy it is to set up. I don't think you have to do much of anything else Dick. Maybe you gave it the wrong url to begin with? It should simply be http://www.artmetal.com/xmlrpc.php
