Images not showing in personal blog

Site Help - FAQ

"Hey Enrique, I was trying to add a pic to my blog and somehow it did not come up in the blog, but rather came up in the news section. On my blog it is just the text. I know you wrote instructions, and for the life of me I cannot find them now..."

Two things need to happen when adding images to blogs.

  1. First thing is to create a new blog entry
  2. then create/place image into blog entry
    1. New images uploaded from your computer will create a separate image post which can be added to galleries or groups you are subscribed to. Note that this is separate from the blog entry you are creating. It is an easy way to include the image you are uploading into other categories/groups/galleries without having to generate separate posts.
  3. Once the image is uploaded, you can then place a thumbnail or preview of the image into your blog post.
  4. After saving your blog post it will automatically be listed in the front page of the news/community section. It will also show up in your personal blog entries. And if you added new images, they will also be listed in the news section and galleries you have specified.

Still not getting it.

I repeated what I did yesterday. I clicked on the +camera image under the comment box and the 'image assist' window came up. I clicked on one of the images and up came options to change title, description and size. Then under that was the option to 'insert', which I did. But as I previewed the blog entry, just the html code came up, and then it posted as not the image, but just the title.

Thanks for your help,
Alex

Alright, here's what I think

Alright, here's what I think happened and how I may have fixed it for you... The "Input format" link below the entry area is very important. Seems when you entered the image and then previewed it, nothing showed up because the default setting for input format is set to "Basic HTML." At the time you did this, images were not supported in this particular format. However, I have gone and added support for images in the "Basic HTML" input format. So you should not have this issue arise again. If this doesn't solve your problem, maybe I have misunderstood your question. Just let me know and I'll try to explain or correct the issue.

After seeing what headaches the "Basic HTML" input format has caused, I've changed the default now to "enable rich-text" and removed the basic html format altogether. So there now is no Input Format to select from. This should make post entries much easier.

Got it.

I had 'enable rich text' right under the add photo icon, but looking in the 'input format', basice was chosen. I chose 'enable rich text' there as well, and it seemed to work.

Thanks so much!

If you have trouble

If you have trouble inserting images (or doing anything else) you might try a different browser. I went in circles trying to put an image into my blog using Opera 9. The "image assist" window showed my images, but when I clicked one I got the "fade in" kind of display instead of the next step with the "insert" button. It may just be me, but another browser may take care of a problem.

Opera not good for editing on the artmetal.com site

Your right Dick. Opera does not like to play well with anything dealing with javascript. I know that even though I liked using Opera, I had to stop using it because it did not like the tinymce gui which uses javascript to create the interface.I really like the Flock browser. It has a built in blog editor and flickr image upload feature. It's based on the firefox api but is simpler and really easy to use.

Flock question

I moved this question about Flock settings to "Text and Image Editor."

Figured it out.

It works fine in Safari, now that I got the issue resolved (in my reply to QQ).

Thanks for the input,

Alex

Safari Maybe?

Yes, it works in safari as long as you do not enable the tinymce editor. That's the one that works when you "enable rich-text" and get all the cute little icons for adding things like bold, italic, and such.

This is one reason I decided to leave the default as NOT being the tinymce gui.

Anyway, glad to hear you figured things out!
