Hello From Unalakleet Alaska, New Artist, Old Art?

| | | | | | |

Hello, I'm sorta new to this whole metal art thing, although I am not new to metal. I am a fabricator. I weld, braze, do auto body, paint, and also TEACH. I am a "shop teacher" in a rural part of Alaska. I am just beginning to explore metal arts with my students and in my free time. Here are a few of my pieces. hello From Unalakleet Alaska, New Artist, Old Art?: spawning silver salmonhello From Unalakleet Alaska, New Artist, Old Art?: spawning silver salmonhello From Unalakleet Alaska, New Artist, Old Art?: brown crabhello From Unalakleet Alaska, New Artist, Old Art?: brown crabHello From Unalakleet Alaska, New Artist, Old Art?: Milluck chuk (dead salmon)Hello From Unalakleet Alaska, New Artist, Old Art?: Milluck chuk (dead salmon)

Welcome to artmetal. How are

Welcome to artmetal.

How are things up on the tundra, now that the dogs have all passed through?
My friend Dianne used to teach in Unalakleet, and the first hardcover book I ever owned was a book called "Juneau the sleigh dog" about a young boy and his dog growing up in Unalakleet. I imaginee that story, written in the 40's???? is a bit dated by now.

Hello, Cool beans, I was not sure if anyone out there wold recognize the name, we and the tundra are still experiencing 17 degree weather and the daily blizzards... but the days are longer and summer is on it's way! Glad I found this "place" it should be fun to post with students and I love seeing what other people are doing.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming...
WOW--What a Ride!

Dianne just corrected me,

Dianne just corrected me, she taught in Koyuk, up on Norton bay.
She said Unalakleet is now a big city, must be at least 1000 people . . .

My wife and I actually

My wife and I actually taught in Koyuk for 2 years, we have moved as our family has grown, we started out on Little Diomede, went to Koyuk, then Shishmaref , then White Mountain and now we are in Unalkleet. We have been doing the "bush" thing for 16 years now, our kids are growing fast and we are looking to move once more in the future.

Is your friends last name Crandle (sp) by any chance?

Dianne Herman. She subs in

Dianne Herman.

She subs in Anchorage now and does skijoring with her 5 dogs. Often crews on the iditarod but this year on that traditional renactment one along the coast, the one with the $100,000 purse.

Soon headed for Uganik and the Village Islands for the summer.
She used to have a salmon license there, and now has a summer cabin.
Her neighbor on Uganik once ran the iditarod, and wrote a book about it.
