Steven this is very cool.

Steven this is very cool. Congratulations on the wonderful piece of work. You have a wonderful ability to capture form, and you have certainly done so amazingly well with this piece. I've always been a bit timid to attempt project where I expect the results to have such grace and magnificance as this piece of yours. I hope you will share the other side with us someday!

i love your human form

i love your human form pieces. you have such an ability to "show you work" in what the metal is doing while the form has such movement and life of its own. its like good jazz music, its got space.

Hey Matt, It's great to see you drop in! When are we going to see some new work from you? I always enjoy seeing your creations.

You're right on in your appraisal of Stephen's figurative work - it really speaks out.

Thank you gentlemen.Today I need to re-spray the piece and prep it for shipping down to San Diego at the end of the week.As I think I mentioned, this sculpture was forged and hammered over another work called "Arch of Triumph" that has been welded into a very solid armature so stout it can be hammered upon. The parts were then cut away and re-welded together forming a new sculpture.I'm doing the same thing with silicon bronze scraps to make another torso, one that will eventually be displayed outdoors and acquire a lovely patina, all the more to expose and define the textural surface of hammer blows...

I look forward to seeing the silicon bronze piece, Stephen. I've been saving little scraps of silicon bronze plate for the past few years and planning to do a welded sculpture with them when I get enough. I probably need another year's worth at the rate I seem to generate them. Unless I decide to do a smaller sculpture... :-)

Hey Rich,
Smaller sculptures can be worthy artworks too...
Just an addendum on the shipping of "Form Follows Function".I took the full torso to the shipping department at the local machine shop that does defense contracts and ships all over the country. They let me ride their coattails as far as deep discounts go.We weighed the piece and incredibly enough it's only 33 lbs. With a special double thick carton they're going to send it UPS...I was shocked it was so light being 1/8th inch steel sheet throughout.
