Coal In North Carolina

Blacksmithing Hi everyone. I'm fairly new to blacksmithing, and am learning as I go. Right now I'm at a point that I'm ready to attempt forge welding. Up to now, I've been using gas or charcoal/wood mix in a forge, mostly for lack of material. The problem is that neither seems to get quite hot enough to raise the steel to welding temp. My question is: Does anyone know how/where I can locate a coal supplier in North Carolina? Or, failing that, does anyone know of any blacksmithing groups/associations in North Carolina? I would appreciate any help. --Paul Haber ABANA website

Try visiting ABANA's website and you'll find a listing under Resourcesm of coal suppliers and Blacksmith groups. http://www.abana.org/index.shtml Gerald Boggs » reply Thanks

I appreciate the help. I had tried the ABANA site, but had no luck. The nearest suppliers I could find were Tennesee and Virginia. Which is ridiculous, since I know people burn coal in North Carolina, and I'm sure there are blacksmiths all over the state. But, I do appreciate the help. » reply Hum... I went to the ABANA

Hum... I went to the ABANA site and you're right, it wasn't much help. Here's the link to the NC blacksmith guild http://www.ncabana.org/ I tried a search of coal on super pages and here's the result. Hope this helps. » reply ![]() blacksmithing coal

try the blacksmiths depot. they have coal and coke(not the kind you can drink or snort). it sells by the bag for about 15 bucks for 50 pounds. coal can be how ever much you can haul i think. i usualy get the coke as you can start forging as soon as the fire gets going. yo uhave to coke the coal first. address is blacksmithsdepot.com » reply You need coke not coal,

You need coke not coal, beans is best or whatever they call it over your side of the pond, I am sure if the supplier is used to supplying Blacksmiths he will put you right. » reply |
