mig welding | recycled material | sculpture Work is progressing extremely slowly on the memorial sculpture. After designing the wings I was determined to have them cut by a local welding shop on their CNC plasma cutter. Gave them a JPEG of what I wanted and they were having a terrible time converting it to an .dxf file. » read more | 2 comments first attempt at patina

I tried the copper universal patina on one of my candlesticks, also applied a green wax and clear coat... on another note- I dropped of the candlestick and a couple other pieces at the local antique/consignment store. metal finish Question: What finish do you recommend over clean, brushed, bare metal? Will a two part Automotive Clear be sufficient, will polyurethane yellow over time or get cloudy when exposed to UV. Should I powder coat it? recycled material | scrap metal I'm taking a tech school welding class for the second time so that I may use their equipment and hone my skills until my garage is completely set up and, most importantly, made fire safe. Here are a couple of my scrap metal projects- keep in mind, I'm very new to this so my stuff may seem mundane by comparison. » read more | 4 comments Sculpture in memory of fallen Airman

recycled material | sculpture | steel A recent tragedy struck home... I was a member of the 86 VRS (Vehicle Readiness Squadron) for 5 of my 8 1/2 years in the Air Force. Four months ago I moved from Germany to Altus, OK and feel as if this place is a Geological oddity.. at least two hours from EVERYWHERE! This led me to wonder if anyone here is located between Dallas and Oklahoma City? I've googled and googled and there aren't any workshops within 100 miles of this place... » read more | 12 comments My thoughts about craft store metal "art"

I was surprised and a bit overwhelmed by the isles and isles of metal wall art, topiaries and such. For some reason, I found it a bit depressing... The stuff was being sold cheaper than what it would cost me in materials... I'm not looking to get rich by any means... but, how do you compete with mass market made in China-especially in this economy? Or, perhaps you don't try to... » read more | 10 comments The piece that got me thinking

Beginning artist I've spent the last four months combing the internet for kindred spirits. I just separated from the AF where I served as a vehicle body mechanic... I fell in love with welding! Now, I seek to take my passion for the torch and my inherited love of the eccentric and turn it into "something". » read more | 2 comments |
