Swage block

This is called a swage block. It is used to form shapes of steel or iron while hot. The shapes around the preimeter can be used as is, or with an outside extension of the shape to create a full round, square, hex, etc.

Lucky you

It amazes me how some of these valuable and worthy old tools are found. Since Nebraska has some of the oldest areas of blacksmithing it was probably left behind by one when they moved. If you do not want it I am sure there are many blacksmiths out there that would pay a premium for it. Or just enjoy your treasure.

PS if you want to send it to me I will pay for the freight (grin)

thanks

I appreciate the info and the offer. I think I will keep my treasure a while and give it a try once I learn a bit more. I think it is funny how things seem to come our way even before we know they are useful.
