new to the site

I am in the sheet metal workers union. I have been a journeyman for 8 years now. I install a lot of copper roofs, metal roofs etc. for large construction projects in my area. But, after being involved in restoring golden dome building for notre dame i found i have artistic capabilities. I had to replicate metal leaves and flowers, pushing vanes through the metal leaves and making flower petals to form flowers on site with general hand tools. SO now i emboss images through copper. animals and humans, plants, and having lots of fun with it. I intend on displaying my art and learning new things on this site. Looking forward to being on this site.

Welcome

ryg (still do not why people do not use a name) any how welcome to the Artmetal site. I checked out some of the photos you posted earlier and you have a very good eye for comprehension. I think that looking at your work it reminds me of a little bit of folk art. Now this is not bad, if you watch the Antique Roadshow folk-art is a big seller if you made in back in the forties.
Not sure of all the techniques that you are using but you call it embossing. To me it looks a little more like chasing. You might want to research that a little and compare the tools that you are currently using. I think that you will find that what you are doing there is a broad range for the skills. Enjoy yourself and just have fun.

embossing?

iam using an assortmemt of punches. 25 steel rods about 4 inches long with metal balls welded to the end. These balls range from 1/16 to 1 inch diameter. i look to find which size punch i need to hammer out that size impression. for instance if i am working on a face or something i use the smallest punch. If i am working on large parts like bodies of an image i use the larger punches. It sounds to me like chasing would be a better term because i am chasing down dents i create and isolating them. I would love to find better tools to work with though. my goal is to pound out a full size human figure!talk to ya later warren! thanks for the advice.
