Hammered Ring

Jewelry I just bought a piece of 14kt white gold strip that is 6mm wide and 2mm thick. I want to create a men's ring with a hammered finish. My question is, do I form and solder the ring first and then hammer it or hammer the finish and then form the ring? I'm concerned about the metal stretching when I hammer the finish. Can someone please tell me the proper procedure for arriving at the correct size (12.5)? Thank you. hammer texture ring

I think Bill has the answer. You are right, if the ring is made first, the size will change when you hammer it. marilyn » reply That is why commercial

That is why commercial "hammered" rings are made by grinding the "hammer" marks on the ring with an abrasive wheel not hammering :-) » reply ring

hmmmm... if you do decide to make it before hammering you can make it a few sizes smaller and work it till it is right.... » reply |

hammer textured ring
Hi Roplisk,
your project could be done either way, but I'd suggest texturing the bar stock first.I think this would be the easiest approach. Then make the band a lil smaller than the finished size(say 12.25) So that after you solder the band you can add the hammer texture to the "joint", which will stretch the band to the finished size (12.5).
let us know how it comes out......we love pix. :)
