fabrication | Sheet metal | Sheet metal working This is a concept of a less than $10.00 cone bender that could concievably bump-bend a cone. A couple of simple sticks of flat bar with another one bolted loosely between. Depending on the space between at each end, you could make a fine cone with light sheet metal with this. With a strap clamped across the bends at the front, you can adjust the distance and hold it while you do your bending, thus assuring repeatability. There you go, without buying a $100.00 book. Nice tool Rick. A person can think of all kinds of handy doo dads to add but without the basic concept they don't count. I'll be adding this one to my tool bench. Thanks, Frosty "We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; - - Plato » reply ![]() I made something like this

I made something like this and bent a 20 ga cone for a motorcycle muffler, 1-1/4" to 3-1/4" in 27". I adjusted the hinge hight with new holes in the center bar. The ridges can be countered with more-closer together presses, or a thicker sheet metal plate between the center bar and the work and thicker sheet metal over the outside barrs. the second was better but I used the first without change. » reply |

Bravo Rick!
And if you are a weakling like me you use a press with a stop to close the bender the same distance each time. Rod could be used instead of flat bar stock to prevent gougeing. Doesn't change the concept. Brad
