Just for Fun

| |

I had a "rest" day between paying jobs today, so naturally I went to the shop and did some blacksmithing.  :-)  It's even more fun doing it for myself than it is doing it for money.

As some of you may already know, one  thing I really enjoy is taking old rusty tools and restoring them to pristine condition for use in my shop.  Another thing I like is tools that are decorative as well as functional.  A while back, I got anice old post vise that needed a fdw parts made and a thorough de-rusting and straightening.  The basic work has been done for some time now, but I only recently got around to mounting it on one of my benches.

 In doing the mounting, I carelessly drilled a hole in the wrong spot in the floor.  Anyone in his right mind would simply patch the hole and pretend it never happened, but I've never layed claim to being in my right mind, so I figured I do something different with that hole.  Down here in the tropics, any crack in a piece of concrete will shortly have a weed or a vine or even a tree growning up out of it, so I decided to grow a vine out of that hole I'd drilled.  This vine I don't have to pull out, at least.Vise embellishment vine

Very nice.

Lovely. I really like adding things that are not really needed, but truly change the way people see things.

Kinda Grows On Ya

Hi Rich,
You always share all that knowledge and logical thinking; its good to see what comes out of the other corners of your mind. It kinda grows on ya.

Vine/Vise

Rich;
Your creativity just squirts out every time it gets a chance! This is a good example of how a blacksmith shop can be upgraded to be more "user-friendly". What's next, a chrome-plated anvil? ;o})~

Wellllll, I actually have

Wellllll, I actually have been giving some thought to embellishing one of my anvils a bit, Nic. It will be one of those things that takes a while to get done, though. My notion is to engrave a nice scene on the side of maybemy big Nimba. Still in the design stages.

Hi Rich, I love the look of that vise, and those vines simply make it a deluxe vise! At times we`re so busy making adornments for so many people, we forget about decorating our work sorrounding and enjoying our own art. Good treat for your shop and yourself. Pretty! nelson.
