Gate Concept drawing

Gate ConceptGate Concept

This is a drawing of a gate I have been thinking about for the last month. All I can do right now is think about it. I would like some input as to potential problems. I was going to frame it in 2" 16 ga sq tube if I ever get to build it. It will be 20 foot long and 8' high at the middle.

Thanks everyone

Hi Rick, I like the gate

Hi Rick, I like the gate design a lot. Will it slide or swing? If it is going to swing you might consider dividing it into two gates. 20' is going to be big and heavy. Will the interior be outlined using bar stock, cut out of plate, or a combination of both?

I think you might consider beefing up your frame to at least 2"x2"x11ga to help fight twisting of the gate. If you want a deep looking inset try 1-1/2"x3"x11ga or 2"x3"x11ga. I really like using these for frames because they allow for so many layers, are really strong, and the 3" face offers a nice ledge to lean on. I see lots of possibilities with the elements on the interior as well. It's a good concept, your going to have a lot of fun with this one.

Jake, thanks for the input.

Jake, thanks for the input. It will be a slide gate. I want to do this for me, so it may be a while before it happens. I like the idea of the 2x3 frame. I was intending to use a combination of plate and bar for the design.

The plan for the bar stock is to start with 5/8 and work 1/2 and 3/8 in to back layers. the wagon area needs some work, just not sure how to pull that off yet.

thanks again
