MY FRONT DOOR

This is a gate that I made for a friend almost 30 years ago. It was installed with other sculptural work on his house until 1996 when he decided to move to South Africa and he asked me to take it down and store it for him. After a year or so, he called me and offered to sell all ofthe ironwork back to me for only $1000! Needless to say, I fired off a cashier's check immediately. Then I converted the gate into a security storm door with glass and screen. It now is one of the front doors of our bed and breakfast here in Pennsylvania."Come into my Parlour": This is a gate that I made for a friend almost 30 years ago. Nic- That is an amazing

Nic-
That is an amazing door! The design is wonderful, and your craftsmanship is outstanding! Good idea of rescuing your past work and converting it to an entrance way. Your doorway reminds me a little of a picture I once saw of Stephen King's entrance gate in Bangor, Maine. I didn't realize you also did a B&B up there in Lehigh. Maybe you should consider something along the lines of what Adrian is thinking about- offering a blacksmith short course/B&B thing. You certainly have the talent!.

Stephen King's gates

Rob:
I've seen those gates and I thank you for the comparison. Also, we do offer many "Stay and Play" classes here such as stained glass, flameworking, metalsmithing for jewelers and stick and oxy-fuel welding. I cannot offer blacksmithing since my only anvil is in my studio being used for copper and silver smithing. It is a beauty with a very high rebound and excellent ring. My friend, Jack Andrews loved it when he tried it out.

On the Fly

Here is a close-up of the FLY. The legs are all-thread 3/8" the wings are flattened expanded mesh and the back is made from three "Morning Stars" which are antique mid-picket castings like those used on "Doggie Pickets" in olde fences.
