New to site

Hello ,just signed up after a lengthy lurk. I just have never been that good around puters. I am a smith from Baton Rouge,LA. Mostly forged, fabbed residential stuff. Also very interested in repousse. I did quite a bit in college and am trying to bring it to the arsenal in my business. Looking forward to learning from y'all and seeing lots of cool stuff.

Nathan, Welcome to Artmetal!

Nathan,

Welcome to Artmetal! As a lurker, you're already aware of the value of this great site, so I won't bore you with that. (grin)

I'm a blacksmith that was originally trained as a silver/goldsmith, and I often incorporate repousse, chasing and even raising in my iron work. I like the effect of bringing in detail and textures with the silversmithing techniques, and it gives me an excuse to use all the tools I kept around for so long.

Lately, I've picked up a few commissions from a local interior designer who comes to me because I can work with bronze, brass, and copper, as well as steel. The ost recent job was reconditioning and modifying several old bronze ship's companionway lights for a millionaire's house on St. Thomas. It was a fun project.

Thanks for the welcome Rick. I too have a background in jewelry based metalsmithing. I started out addicted to knives and grew from there. I went to your site- very nice work. There are a few art pieces on my site but the past few years have been mostly scrollwork and fabrication. Gotta a mortgage to pay!
Please check out my site -I am always intersted in the opinions of other craftspeople as to how I can improve.
Once again, thanks and here's to a quiet hurricane season.
