New Projects and Ideas...

Ok so I don't know how often or if its even safe to post new ideas, before they're made.. I guess it depends on what it is, but here's my latest projects. And I think I'll post the ideas that they came from with them here. Feel free to add your own.

Thanks for sharing!

Hey Metalhead,
Thanks for all 3 of the blogs, it's great to see the initial idea and the final product. They look great, can you share what process you used? I was just out looking for a planisher yesterday, but I don't have a large air compressor, ours bit the dust, looking for one of them also. What size air compressor do you use for your planisher? I have been looking for a smaller one to get me started. I am just getting started with metal work due to the $$$ factor. I have a Mig, and a plasma cutter, and access to a full machine shop when I need it. Still looking for that "what to do with all that scrap that comes off the CNC's, ya know, the little spirals of metal that go in the recycle bin"? There's a piece of art there somewhere. Thanks for sharing, Lorrie

Planisher

Hey nice meetin ya Lorrie!
It depends on what it is.. I pretty much either blow the pic up with a art-o-graph or projector to either straight to the metal, or to paper board and make a template. Nothings better than having repeatability, Or In the case of the Flower Holder. I drew it on the ground in chalk full size.

Ya know you'd be surprised some of the tools harbor freight carries. They have a Small Planisher that comes with 3 dies and adjusts up and down, that mounts to a seperate stand that all together is about $140 plus tax. Look up, "Pneumatic Planishing Hammer" on their website, and the stand is seperate. Under "Pneumatic Planishing Hammer Stand." Ya time it right you can get them on sale.. Also takes about 1/2 a bag of kids play sand inside it to dampen the vibes. Soon as I got it I took a rotoloc grinder and I ground the flattest die to a much rounder more agressive point than the most round one in the set then finished it with a D/A locked in one setting on 80grit then on D/A mode, to finish it smooth. Its no good for finishing work but set on the highest setting it gets more done faster, and can work in closer to bead roller lines. For really nice finishes I use the second setting down with factory dies. You gotta have a feel for the metal to know where its highs and lows are but it'll finish it off as well as the E-wheel will.

My Air Compresser is dinky and runs about all the time. The planisher doesn't really loose power like say a nibbler takes it away.

I always get long curly cue things too when I air chisel the length of a pick-up box bed side off... I've been thinkin something like party favors, or the tail of a pig. So I'd love to hear a better idea than that!! Maybe the trail of a bullet or rocket...??? It'd be cool in a kids room!

You'd be surprised that you can do with just a mill yet alone a full machine shop!! Your lucky, Use it well!

Last time I had access to a machine shop, this is what I made. So don't hold back!!
