Santa Claus brought me a MIG welder!

|

Well I must have been a good girl this year cause Santa brought me a Millermatic 140 MIG welder. I was more than surprised. So now I've got my plasma cutter and welder and have my first designs ready to be put onto steel. I just have to get the workshop in good order so I don't burn down the garage and we'll be all set!

One question - do I need to do anything different for my house insurance if I'm operating this type of equipment more often than just fixing a cracked tractor bucket?

Happy Holidays everyone!

MM- Congratulations on the

MM-
Congratulations on the new machine! Looking forward to lots of pictures. I didn't have to do anything extra for my insurance (no additional premiums, etc.), even though I carefully went through exactly what I was doing, the equipment I was using, etc. Be sure to be completely straight forward with your company and send them in writing the conclusions of any discussions you have with them, outlining the work you do and the equipment you have. Remember, if your house burns down, they are holding the cards. Wishing you happy holidays and a minimum of burnthroughs!

nah

Doesn't hurt to ask u'r insurance company, but as long as it's a 'hobby', it shouldn't bother the insurance companies. it is when u go full time as a business when they start raising their eyebrows.

Home Insurance

My insurance (State Farm) has been very clear that any fire caused by welding is not covered if in my garage. They may not have the same issue with out buildings. Many homes are not allowed to have a business by local codes.
