Hello, Im new, heres my eagle sculpture

| | | | | |

Hello everyone, this is something ive been working on since last summer. I made it by mig welding 2 - 4mm stainless steel bars together, to create a see through structure that has the look of feathers. I just got it back from electropolishing, and it gleams beautifully, inside and out. The eyes are stainless spheres which i chopped up and mounted. eagle side vieweagle side vieweagle faceeagle faceeagle overheadeagle overheadeagle front oneagle front on
im a self taught metalworker, tack welds in stainless being about as far as my knowledge goes, but i have become thoroughly addicted to making these sculptures, and i want to start working with sheet mettal at some point. but not yet as ive too many ideas for wire sculptures.
Heres some other stuff ive done; a bust thats a copy of the 'Antinous Mondragone' and work in progress thats going to be a woman looking up at the skyAntinousAntinousface being builtface being built
Thanks for looking.

Awesome!

Martin,
Love your work. I especially like the face. She looks complete, what else are you going to add to her? Can't tell from the picture if this is going to be a wall hanging, free standing form, or suspended. Thanks for sharing.

thankyou, im making her into

thankyou, im making her into a freestanding head & shoulders bust. I thought id connect her to the plinth with her ponytail as her heads tilted back. I think the wavy hair texture caould play well against the smoothness of her skin. Ill show you in a few weeks..

Welcome and I really like

Welcome and I really like your work. It is different. The eagle has a great look in his eye. The womans' face is beautiful, I can't wait to see were it goes.
Mele

I had to add more. The more you look at him the more you see, his feet hang so nicely. Could you post a picture from the top, to see his tail feathers and the trailing edge of his wings.
He's just wonderful!

Hi Martin and Welcome to Artmetal. I can't say too much more than what's already been said. Great work. I really like the style. How big are the pieces usually, when they are finished?

Thankou jake. I tried to

Thankou jake. I tried to make the eagle lifesize, but it came out a bit bigger (235 x 120cm) and the heads are about 1 1/3 lifesize. im able now to weld 2mm wires (what the heads are) which i couldnt do when i started the eagle and i want to be able to work smaller & more deailed in the future, though ive been told that MIG is not the best for this, being so explosive, and that i should try TIG

diversity

there is a lot to be said for sheet metal I guess, but if you haven't done a couple of hundred of this style, the world will have missed something special if you diversify right now. Wonderful work!!!

Wow! I agree with all that

Wow! I agree with all that has been said. I too think you should stay with the wire for a while. What you have shown us is beautiful and you should continue to develop it.
