HI TO ALL IM A NEWBIE FROM AUSTRALIA

Hi to anyone out there, I've just found this site and HAD to join...Im in the process of learning about welding cos I have, for a few years, wanted to make metal 'art'....Im so happy to find so many people doing what I hope to do! YAY! I will be able to get decent information!

Im starting from the absolute beginning. Ive read some tutorials online, getting the theory ( all a bit much but necessary-dang!) Also ive met the husband of a work colleague who is a tradesman welder - he says its easy - yeah?! anyway Ive been to the local hardware and found a couple of welding machines - mig and arc...and am still in the process of decision making - Ive just bought a house and am also painting, sanding.....working to pay the mortgage, etc, etc, etc...so I will be buying sometime later in the year cos I want to save this for the winter when its cooler (stinking hot here in the summer - northern new south wales-australia).

Anyway just introducing myself and will soon be putting out heaps of questions!!! I hope to do artistic type stuff for my garden and home-looking forward to being a part of the gang!

Cheers all

G'day!

I'm down here in Canberra. I've been lurking around ArtMetal for more than 10 years - it's a great forum. Do you have any photos of your work?

This woman recently moved to Newcastle

On another forum a young woman who just moved to Newcastle , NSW from Argentina posted some of her repoussé work.

She says she studied in HS and then worked for a couple years before emigrating.

This from her blog.

THANKS FOR THE WELCOME GUYS!!

Hi to all those who welcomed me to this site, Im grateful for the interest!! Ive been to price welding machines and after a quick browse here, I think the mig is the go, someone mentioned it was like using a big glue gun!!! well I can use a glue gun so I should be ok??!!

anyway I have been online reading up on welding theory - that was a bit much, all technical and for machine fabrication etc...It did my head in I must say!!! I really only wanted a 'welding for dummies' type of info but have yet to find it.

I have an aquaintance who suggested I just have a go by myself however Im a little afraid of the technology etc and will ask him to be present when I have my first go just in case I a) burn the house down or b)electrocute myself!

I hope to make stuff like standing candle holders wrought iron style and have a fantasy of doing a large garden art piece WHEN IVE MADE MY GARDEN!!!

Anyway lots of dreams a not much of a clue so far but Ive confidence in myself and my abilities...so cheers guys talk to you soon

Welcome to Art Metal. Most

Welcome to Art Metal. Most everyone starts where you are right now. don't let it overwhelm you. MIG is the easier of the two to become reasonably proficient in quickly.

In know time at all you will be showing off your creations and learning at the same time.

Have fun and don't be afraid to ask "How do I......"
