wave & tendril railing

| | |

Couple of snaps of parts of a railing we pre-fitted last week.  The woodwork is yet to be finally sanded so we have not permanently installed, the railing had been sitting in the shop finished for 2months & we had to go and discuss lighting fixtures so it was a good opportunity to snag the railing too.  Hauled the darn thing up and down 3 flights of stairs and having to re-pack the truck with it didn't feel all that great but it went in just like it was supposed to so can't complain, now its under plastic in the shop till the wood's finished.  Will look better with it's walnut cap rail.

That's all to report from our forge for now.  My husband Elmer Roush (also a smith) has just shown some of his locks and measuring implements to a gallery and had a great reaction so getting his assistance with architectural projects might a thing of the past, more time for jewelry for me!! Hmmm.  You never know what's around the corner.

Very nice, Linda. Really goes nice with all the wood.
The flowing lines seem to incorporate nicely with the grain of the wood.

Great work Lynda. I love the organic "frondy" look, particuarly the shots from a distance.

How do you finish this type of work?

Thanks Peter, the organic

Thanks Peter, the organic bits were to relieve the crispness of the wavy bars, I added in some changes of thickness in the bars too otherwise it would have looked a bit stark for the space I think.

We have found a great clear lacquer called Permalac that is my new fave finish, its rated for outdoor work too, we used it on the client's exterior railing too, pics here:

It has been in since March and there are a couple of areas we've had to touch up but they were just places that were rubbed or scratched in transporting & installing.
