Metal Gate-Horse DesignMetal Gate-Horse Design
This is a design I submitted for a door design contest, and of course, won nothing. So I'm gonna make it anyway. I have 3/16x1 stock, all lenghts cut, ready for bending. My husband is going to cut a template for me out of plywood on his CNC table router. I bought a 3/4" sheet of plywood, going to cut the pattern about 3/8" deep with a 1/4" tool path.
I was going to try to make double doors for a gate.

Great Design

Well what do judges know? I think its a great design and look forward to seeing some progress pictures. Which side of the design are you going to use as the center of the finished gates?

The arms at center

Bob,
The horses "arms" will be at the center. Since I've never made one of these before, not sure about the logistics of handles and how to attach hinges.
Thanks to everyone for the nice comments.

Well, all of the pieces are cut and formed, that didn't take long-ha!
Now for the easy part, the welding, hope I don't screw it up! Any free advice will be gladly received. I'm thinking the following steps:
1) Tack corners
2) Tack inner supports on all corners
3) Tack the larger shapes to stablize the piece
4) Tack, tack, tack!

A neat way

Lorrie that is really cool the way you did that. How come no burn marks on the plywood? Any way looks like a neat and fun project.

Hi Warren,
The reason there are no burn marks is because I did not start welding it yet. Many lessons learned here!
