Hey, this site is great. Wonderful threads and work, very inspiring. I'm not sure if the type of fabrication I do fits here, but I'll give it a go. Anyone out there doing "contemporary" architectural steel fabrication and installation and furniture? I've been fabricating metal for over 25 years in one form or another, starting out as an apprentice with some amazing fabricators. Steam/pipefitting in large scale up to 72" dia, machining, forming, plate rolling, and holding a few welding certs., industrial machine building and repair, and working in many different commercial/industrial enviroments and private homes. I've never tried hand forging! My intrest has always been in art, architecture and building design, so in the last 10+ years have been doing so on my own. I look forward to reading and seeing more of the work submissions. Lauren I love the pics you

Lauren I love the pics you posted. Very cool work. Wish I could play with the really big stuff. I started out wanting to build at more of an architectural scale. Looking forward to seeing more!! Lynda » reply Fun

Thanks for your kind words. The bigger stuff is great, and I certainly like to sink my teeth into them. But they don't come as often as I would like them to, and they can be mentally and physically draining. So the small jobs to me are every bit as important even though the profit margin is smaller, I can certainly live on the small jobs. I'm usually brought into projects either to design and fabricate, just fabricate or both. But the smaller jobs keep me in contact with my clients so when the larger jobs come up they call me in. And then there are smaller jobs that I just can't resist doing because they are so challenging to me, and could provide other contacts with GC's, interior designers, architects, magizine publications, etc. I look at each job as an exercise that pushes my abilities to the edge and further. And the smaller scale jobs get to completion faster, and final payment. Staying in the loop. » reply |
