newbie needs assistance

Hi everyone,

Soooo very glad I found your site!

I am doing a wall sculpture for an entry to the "Brainstorms" exhibit put on by the Epilepsy Foundation. It is a combination of hammered sheetmetal, copper mesh and sheeting, and heat formed plexi. I have 2 questions:

What type of sealer do I use on the copper sheeting and mesh?

What type of sealer do I use on the sheet metal?

Also any suggestions on how to make the hammering pop?

Thanx!!!

type of sealer

Go to an auto painters supply, they have a urethane in a can the use on plastic car bumpers. Napa stores have their own brand in a spray can.

type of product

The auto paint supply route is the way to go. Remember to explain the type of application your after. They're going to suggest a preping agent for the metal. This is a good idea. It protects the urethane from lifting and pealing off your piece do to dirt and the oils from your hands. I have a lot of expereince with coating metals and clean surfaces are a must.

thanx

Cleaning has been a huge part of this project, its a multi media project so trying to attach all this parts has meant clean parts.

Thanx for the tip on the urethane!

hammering pop

hammering in the sheet metal - the copper mesh I have just used heat coloring in the areas the are bent.

I hope to post a picture soon since the deadline is looming.

I have used cold rolled steel 18G, roofing copper and then standard artstore copper mesh. 1/4" plexiglass which is much harder to heat shape than 1/8".

I want to keep the hammering in the 18G and polish it some but make the "dents" stay their darker color. Wax? Shoe polish? what.

This will end up being a wall hanging title "two halves of me"

Thanx for all the help
