Never tried to go to 200 tons

The hose coming off of the vickers pump is not the high pressure hose I have other hoses that go to the otc 10,000 psi pump. I use the 5hp vickers pump for everything,I have found it to be more than adequate for anything I could ever want to do. The cylinder is 8 inches in diameter that thing that is on the end is a nose I machined up so I can change out tooling. The pins are 4130 2.5 inches around they probably are a little small. I have taken the press to 90 tons to punch 1 inch steel holes through 3/4 plate and had no problems but I have never tried to max it out. I dont have any experience with hydraulics this is my first project that used them I looked at alot of big presses and tried to copy them. I got the ram from a scrap yard it was bent so I cut it down and rewelded it to 13 inches roughly. Getting through the hard chrome is a killer I have a big power hacksaw and it took an hour I even ground away the area I was going to cut with an angle grinder. I spent about a year on and off building it the guys at the hydraulic shop were real helpful but at first they were saying if you are asking these kinda questions maybe you shouldnt be building this. Building it definitly maxed out my shop just moving the steel around and getting it up on the mill to drill it was a pain I cut all the stock on my power hacksaw and after doing that I went and got a bandsaw. I have built quite few machines for my shop I have a pneumatic forging hammer and an air planishing hammer, I built a pyramid roll with a 7.5 hp motor that I sold to a shop I thought I wanted to get into the metal fabrication bussiness but their is so much competition from every guy with a buzz box and a chop saw. I still have not figured out how to introduce myself I will get my wife to show me how to do some more stuff on here. thank Kevin

Kevin, The Press is awesome,

Kevin,
The Press is awesome, Typically when I see Frames that will produce extreme pressures they have tandem support colums and multiple pins. The O.D. of the pins is about right no problem there. But the wall thickness from the square tubing on a single colum from a ridigity stand point gets a little spooky. I'm an Old Toolmaker an not a Hyd. Expert and was not picking on your very impressive Press. I was only trying to convey the dangers you may face. The Press will probably never give you any issues. As far as the hoses; Seals fittings and hoses are always the weakest link in the Hydraulics game. Back presssure is a real bummer.
As far I can tell you seem to be on the ball or wouldn't have been able to make this!
Make Cool some stuff and find out what's selling in your area!
Good Luck and welcome, I look forward to seeing some of your art work.
Chuck

200 tons

Cool looking press, congratulations.

You may not want to apply 10,000 psi to that cylinder. I have a 200 Ton Enerpac H frame press that uses a RR20013 cylinder. The cylinder is 9.75 inches in outside diameter. With a ram that has an effective area of 44 sq in or about 7.5" in diameter. They safety limit the max pressure to 9090 psi and it has a thicker wall than the cylinder you describe. I believe that Cat cylinders are meant for lower pressure hydraulics 3000-5000 psi. It would be way too exciting if that cylinder split.

big press

Kevin
"Bigger tools make bigger things."The cylinder I am told is made by enerpac when I had it apart to get new seals I took it to a hydraulic shop and they gave me seals that were marked enerpac corp. It uses piston rings not o rings the piston is 8 inches not the outside cylinder but dont worry I am to lazy to unhook all the hoses to put 10,000psi to it. The vickers pump has provided all the push I need. I love those enerpac 100 ton presses those are sweet I almost painted mine yellow in honor of them. They are real pricey but are worth every penny I bet.

I was very lucky and got it on Ebay for 5K. this is about 10% the cost of a new 200 ton press from Enerpac. And it is indeed a nice press. The funny thing is that the previous owner painted the front side grey but the back side must have been against a wall or too hard to get to because it is still yellow :-)

Hi, where is the picture of

Hi, where is the picture of the machine, I want to make a big press so this is interesting to me? Oh and this is my first posting too!

So hello,

EDIT: Found it, great!
