Hobart 140 Mig Welder.....?

Hello Community,
I thought I'd give this a try befor I take my Hobart 140 Mig Welder to my local machine doctor (who, by the way, is so nice that I brought him a box of chocolates the last time I saw him, for fixing my plasma cutter for free!)...............it just won't get hot enough. Even when welding an 18 gauge piece of flat sheet.........yes, I, and another VERY VERY experienced metal artist messed with it a lot.....changed the wire feed/heat settings, etc............any ideas about what would make it Not be hot enough? Might there be a loose wire in there?.......that doesn't sound right.....so what could it Possibly be?? There's always the nice doctor, that I really hope likes chocolate, however...........thought I'd give this a try first.........?

hobart welder?

First things first give that hobart Welder the drop kick to the dumpster and buy a Miller. Then have the chocolates to yourself. Happy New Year

possibly insufficient

possibly insufficient amperage to the machine. Like too long an extension cord of like 16 or 18 gage wire? Or maybe there is a switch for 220 vs 110 volts and it's on 220 and you're running 110? Or.....?

not hot enough...

check your power source, cycle the circuit breaker in your panel and check to see that you are getting 208/240 at the welder. if that is ok, it could be a blown diode/scr in the rectifier. you will only get about 1/2 power. if there is a reset button on the machine push it...open it up and see if there are loose/burned wires... Good luck

Kimberli, Sorry to hear that

Kimberli,
Sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your HH140. I hope it can be fixed.
If it has given up the magic smoke though, it may be time to upgrade. I recently purchased a Hobart Handler 187. It is a sweet machine! It's easy to set up and welds wonderfully. Performance is similar to a MillerMatic 210. I highly recomend one if you need a new welder!

Best of luck and Happy New Year!
