Just got word the rep. from

Just got word the rep. from the art counsel is coming by on Thursday with the developer from a townhouse park this is about to open.

They want to talk about leaseing some of my big stuff for the entry drive. Also some for a walkway or two.

Anyone ever lease to someone like this?

What questions should I be asking?

I have the feeling I should walk away from this one..

Any comments??

I've never had someone ask

I've never had someone ask to lease my stuff(they just ask if I'll do it for free), but it sounds like a way to get good art without paying what it's worth. If the pieces are already made and taking up space, it might be a good way to get some exposure and $, but I don't think I would design and create something from scratch. Just make sure you get paid for your work, in reality when you lease something you usually pay more than if you bought it outright(for the time you possess the item). Let us know what the agreement is like.

There is a company in the uk

There is a company in the uk called art for offices, they lease from artists for film sets, tv dramas, high class offices with an option to buy. They may be a good starting point for you.If you cannot find them let me know and i will post a link for you. Good luck and let me know how things go on. Adrian

go it alone

For what its worth, don't get involved with any art for business type organisations ...they will limit your freedom in the long run and will give an image of you and your work that might be quite different from what you want. They also charge commission...

There is no harm in making some of your work for hire .... it gives you exposure and a good sense of how the market is moving.

Unless you have made a site specific piece it also allows you to see your work in different settings which generally broadens your perspective.

Whether you sell your babies or just rent them out .... we are all tarts anyway ...

Hi Kevin, although I live

Hi Kevin, although I live in another country, my believe is that art is art anywhere, and the bottom line is the same at the end. I did some work to someone who introduced me to the City Airport Director, so I showed him my work and asked him if they`d let me put some of my sculptures in the main hall. They liked them, so I have I good showcase. few people know me,but my work is getting to be known. No pain no gain. The highest paid work, has come from that public exposure of my art. Frankly, if I could get some lease money,I`d be even happier (actually I`m no getting any direct money from that), but I plan to tellèm hey, you wanna buy or else I`ll move elsewhere. In fact, I`m not ready for that step yet! Got the point? Good luck. nelson.

Thank you everyone for your

Thank you everyone for your insights. The art counsel rep. called today and said, first they would like to come today, then called back an hour later and said maybe thursday instead.

I guess I will just have to wait untill they get it all sorted out on their end first.

I have a couple of large scuptures I can put out there if they offer something I can live with. I just hate to put out 3 or 4 months of work where anyone can take a paintcan to it for next to nothing.

In the meantime, still nothing from the counsel on the public piece I proposed on. May take 1 to 2 months before I hear anything. Of course they will be expecting installation in 90 days after they say go. Oh well, I was going to give up sleeping anyway.

Speaking of which, I am off to the shower and a glass of wine before bed.

Night night all.
