How do I get a "website"?

Thanks for help and support so far. I had some of my hooks and hairsticks in a jewelry sale this weekend, and it went well. I was really nervous, but everyone was real nice and I made a few sales and got some orders.

Everyone asked if I have a website. Is it ok to use my blog as a website? Is there a way to get a free website with a good address? I've been using googlesites, but the address is so song, I'm afraid no one will want to type it in! Anyways, I'm not super computer savvy, I just know enough html to decorate my myspace page. Maybe I can make a myspace page for my metal stuff. Is that really tacky? I really just need to put some pictures on there and my email address.

Any suggestions?

Hi Julia, I'm glad the

Hi Julia, I'm glad the jewelry sale went well for you. As for a website I can't give to many suggestions since I don't yet have one myself, however if you need some sort of digital web based portfolio by all means use what you can, in fact you might make a myspace page just for your business. I've also been suggested a flicker account but haven't tried that yet. There is a new website coming out dedicated to the arts called America Creates whose purpose is to facilitate the sale of art and give artists and craftspeople a chance to display their work/portfolio. Even better is that it has a juried enrollment, so people won't have to wade through a bunch of sock puppet vendors to get to your nice hooks and hair pins. It's one of the best set ups i've seen and really fair to the artists. I'll post a new blog and a link when it launches. I think almost everyone on this site would do well to apply. If you find any other solutions be sure to post them.

Sites,

there sure is a bunch of free sites if that is the way you want to go, there are also groups that can help set one up for you, check like the NAIA site for some ideas if you are going to do a site.

For just posting some pics use like www.flickr.com

You can give it a domain name that can be short.

If real serious about spending some bucks, then find the many that will charge you. If makes it easier if you do not know about computers. I am sure there are a few folks on this site that you could hire to do your site.

Website

I have a website that allows me to update it myself, with new sculptures, discriptions, photos, as well as add links.
I do not have to know HTML codes to do this. I own my own domain names and redirect traffic to my main site. All of this cost me about $200/year. It did cost me $800 about 7 years ago to set it up. But I have sold hundreds of sculptures because of it. You might want to ask yourself if this is what I want to be doing 5 or 10 years from now, if so you should buy a domain name and get started.
Best regards

check out yahoo SiteBuilder

if you can click a mouse, then you can build a website.
my experience with free websites is that you get a lot of pop ups on your site...if you don't mind that sort of thing, there is geocities

Website

What I recommend is buying a domain name at domainsatcost.ca or even godaddy.com and then having someone build you a site. You could talk to David at Advertising In Focus as they are very reasonable. You can contact him at david.jones@aifcanada.com and he can let you know what it would cost.

The other option is ning.com where you can get a ning web site address for free using the name you want and eventually buy the same name web domain. It is a great site to post pictures, video, and a whole lot more.
