I will definitely be at the Gichner Memorial Hammer-In. In fact, the nice folks at MASA have engaged me to be the featured demonstrator for the event this year.

I'll be demo-ing making stakes and hammers for raising and repousse/chasing work, and doing a bit of raising to show how they work - assuming they do, of course. (grin) I've shipped up most of my tools and some samples already.

For anyone in the area, this is a really great meet to attend. There is a high percentage of professoinal smiths at this gathering, and lots of great information is exchanged. There's good tailgating, great food and lots of it. The fee includes the food, so it's a real bargain.

I'm really looking forward to this event and hope to see some of you there.

I've considered hosting a workshop or two here, but I don't know if people would be willing to spend the money to travel here. Airfare, motel, etc all adds up and can push the cost of a three or four day workshop up too high for most people. I suppose people could possibly camp out here on the farm and save the motel money.

I really do enjoy teaching people who truly want to learn and are willing to make the effort, but unfortunately there don't seem to be any people here on St Croix who really want to learn. I'm not willing to set up a class only to have it filled with puerile pups who only want to make swords and brass knuckles.

I'm sure we'll all have a great time at Gichner's. The MASA folks do a great job of putting on a well-run event and the food is good and plentiful, too. They usually have several short pick-up demos during breaks, so there should be something interesting, at least. (grin) I'll try not to bore you excessively. :-)

I would appreciate it if you could arrange for some unseasonably warm weather this coming weekend. A little something in the 70's would be just about perfect.

See you there!

well unseasonably warm is not exactly in the forecast. We'll be lucky if we miss the ice storm. I'm going to miss the Friday evening portion, but look forward to seeing you on Saturday morning.
