SoCal. Jolt

Wow! That was a bit of a jolt we had over here in SoCal. I don't have T.V., but on the internet it was posted as a magnitude of 5.8. My house swayed a bit, and the floor rolled...one of my dogs was in the house with me and he was having a fit. I kept calling him to come to me, but he was too worked up to listen.

Nothing fell off of the walls, or anything, but it sounded as if a large truck was going by with a strong vibration rattling the walls. Now that my heart isn't in my throat anymore it's time to go back to work.

Cheers,

A Jolt

Hi Jamie, Not sure if I would want to live in that area, it must really be a creepy feeling. How do you get by without any TV, not interested in sports?

Thanks Warren, Yes I have to

Thanks Warren,
Yes I have to say I'm not really a big fan of sports...the earthquakes can be a bit scary, but thing about earthquakes is that they just "happen," and then that's it! Well, if there's no damage that is. Luckily this one just rocked a bit. I do remeber the "94" one, and that one was wicked!

Relieved

Glad to hear you are well and safe Jamie. Earthquakes can be a serious matter. Was in Mexico during the big one in the late '50s. Stay safe.

Thanks Fred! Yeah, grandma

Thanks Fred!

Yeah, grandma gets really worked up and wants to run outside, but it's not good to panic. I'm just glad I wasn't on the road driving.

attack of the martians..

i recall the northridge temblor, when i was living in topanga canyon. i ran outside to see the horizon flashing with lights. i thought martians were attacking. the flashes were transformers exploding.

then i rushed to work and didnt come home for a few days (newspaperman at the time)..

hang on, jamie.. the big one has yet to come.

Hopefully it won't hit in my

Hopefully it won't hit in my life time...not that I would wish that on anyone alive after I'm gone.

I was going to beauty school at the time of the Northridge quake, and I remember we had to take an alternate route just to get into the San Fernando Valley because the 5 Freeway had collapsed. The traffic was insane. It took anywhere from 2-4 hours to travel about 25 miles, or so. CRAZY!!! The aftershocks lasted about a day, or two. It's a weird sensation under your feet...

Jamie it's so funny you

Jamie it's so funny you mentioning that grandma wants to run outside.......I was living with my sister in L.A. during the 86 quake (sometime between 86-89). We were in our bedrooms when it happened, and the next thing I know, she has lost her mind completely and is standing in the courtyard of our huge apartment complex totally naked. Well.......she curled up into as small a ball as she possibly could until a towel could be brought to her. I don't know if there's a quake strong enough to keep me from grabbing my blanket before I run.......(sure don't want to find out!). Yes you are very lucky you weren't on the road.....

Hi Kimberli, Sorry I had to

Hi Kimberli,

Sorry I had to laugh =D at your comment about your sister...People react in strange ways when it first hits. I myself froze for a few seconds. You definitely have to think fast ESPECIALLY if your caught naked.

Thanks for sharing!

Glad Your'e Okay!!

Hi Jamie,
that must have been weird but the fact you went through the big one makes you a pro at quakes.Totally frightening. Mother Nature is in control!!!!! Does put our little lives into perspective .....Stay safe...SteelyJan

Hi Janet, Yes, Mother Nature

Hi Janet,

Yes, Mother Nature is always in control. The quakes as long as I've dealt with them, do shake me up mostly because we know that a big one is coming, and in that split second when it hits the thought goes through your mind-Is this the one? and then it's usually over. The question is when is it going to be the one? No one really knows...

Thanks Gillis, Earthquakes

Thanks Gillis,
Earthquakes are scary, but I'm not so sure I'd want to trade that for something else like a tornado, or hurricane. Maybe 'cause I've lived here all my life and it's what I know.

Earthquake

Well Jamie,
I like the way you dust yourself off and them just get on with it very cool and amazing.
Hey I also just wanted to say I noticed the new photo of yourself you posted, nice.
Regards Michael.

Thanks Michael, Earthquakes

Thanks Michael,

Earthquakes are fact of life over here. I've been in many of them...only one big one though, which was the Northridge quake, so in 33 years I guess that's not too bad. They are scary, and I think most people get startled at the jolt when it first hits 'cause the first thought is: "Is this the big one," and most of the time it's not, so we pick up and move on.

Thanks for the comment on the new photo too! I was getting ready to go to an event down in Beverly Hills, and had finished the Chain Mail necklace in time to wear it to the event. We probably should have gotten a closer image of the necklace 'cause it's a bit hard to see on this site. I've posted the same picture on my MySpace page and it's much clearer, and bigger...the details on the necklace are more visible.

Thanks again for the compliment!

Cheers,
