Thanks for the nice comments ..... you might like to play with this approach ... Take any two randomly spread and rippled patches ( We make ours by crushing 10mm - 25 mm offcuts but any odd shape that you have left on the end of a bar can be cut off and spread) Weld them together to form an open clam ( nearest annalogy ) ..leaving a small unwelded slit to be opened with a punch to let the stem / stamen in. TIG or gas is best because you can use overlap as your filler. Play with different lengths of weld ...short gives an open mouth when the flower is crushed, longer keeps the flower more bulbous. heat and randomly crush with curved hammer and stake,groove, whatever. good fun and rarely looks bad ....failures can be crushed more to form buds.
